4th of July – Fireworks in the DMV

What’s a 4th of July celebration without viewing fireworks?  If you’re staying in town, we suggest one of these festivals in a neighborhood near you.

Northern Virginia

    Fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
    Bring a blanket and pick your seat early!
  • Fairfax
    Fairfax High School, 3501 Rebel Run
    Fireworks begin at 9:20 p.m.
    No public parking available at Fairfax High School.  Shuttle buses will run from Woodson High School.
  • Falls Church
    George Mason High School, 7124 Leesburg Pike
    Fireworks at 9:20 p.m.
    Seating to view the fireworks is available at Moore Cadillac Stadium or the parking lot at Northern Virginia Graduate Center.
  • Herndon –
    Herndon Community Center, 814 Ferndale Ave.
    Fireworks begin at approximately 9:30 p.m.
    Food vendors will be available or bring your own picnic.
  • Manassas
    Harris Pavilion in Old Town Manassas, 9201 Center St.
    Fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m.
  • Reston 
    Lake Fairfax Park, 1400 Lake Fairfax Dr.
    Fireworks show with music from the U.S. Army Field Band beginning at 9:15 p.m.

Washington, D.C.

    Fireworks will be launched at 9:10 p.m.
    This event is nationally televised.
    If you plan to watch them on the Mall, arrive early to claim your spot!

Tip:  If you want to avoid the large crowds on the Mall, you also have a great view of the display from the following locations:  East Potomac Park, West Potomac Park, Georgetown Waterfront Park, Anacostia Park, U.S. Marine Corps Memorial (Iwo Jima), National Cathedral, Air Force Memorial, Gravelly Point near Reagan Airport.  There are also many hotels and rooftop bars in D.C. and VA that sell special tickets to view the fireworks from their rooftops.


  • Annapolis
    Annapolis Harbor
    Fireworks over the bay beginning at 9:15 p.m.
  • Baltimore –
    Inner Harbor
    Fireworks choreographed to festive music will begin at 9:30 p.m.

Tip: To avoid large crowds around Inner Harbor, the fireworks can also be viewed from  Federal Hill, Fell’s Point and Harbor East.  

  • Bowie
    Prince George’s Stadium, 4101 Crain Highway
    Fireworks display at 9:15 p.m.
    The stadium’s main gate will open at 6:00 p.m. so, bring your blanket and a picnic for an evening of celebration!
  • College Park
    University of Maryland, College Park (Parking Lot 1)
    Fireworks set to go off around 9:00 p.m.
    Bring your own blanket and cooler and enjoy the outdoors.
  • Columbia –
    Lake Kittamaquandi, 10221 Wincopin Circle
    Fireworks display at dusk.
    Claim your space on the lawn as early as 8:00 a.m.
  • Frederick –
    Baker Park, 121 N. Bentz St.
    Fireworks display set off from Parkway Elementary School at dusk.
  • Gaithersburg
    Montgomery County Fairgrounds, 16 Chesnut St.
    Fireworks display set to launch at dusk.
  • Greenbelt
    Buddy Attick Park, 555 Crescent Rd.
    Fireworks will begin at 9:00 p.m.
  • Kensington/Wheaton
    Albert Einstein High School, 11135 Newport Mill Rd.
    Fireworks at 9:15 p.m.
    Free shuttle bus service will pick up passengers beginning at 6:15 p.m. at Westfield Wheaton and the Wheaton Metro Station.
  • Laurel 
    Granville Gude Park, 8300 Mulberry St.
    Saturday, July 5, 2014
    Fireworks will be shot from Laurel Lake at 9:15 p.m.
  • Poolesville
    Poolesville Polo Grounds, 14460 Hughes Rd.
    Fireworks at 9:00 p.m.
    Parking is $5.00 per vehicle.

All events take place on Friday, July 4th unless otherwise noted.
