Burke Lake Park: A Local Escape
Posted on June 22, 2015

One of the many great things about living in Northern Virginia is that you can travel a few miles in one direction and be in our nation’s capital, and in the other direction and be surrounded by peaceful lakes and hiking trails!

Burke Lake Park, located in Fairfax Station just 45 minutes outside of DC, has just about every activity you can think of to spend a leisurely day in the great outdoors – everything from hiking, biking, boating, disc golf, fishing, golfing, ice cream, and even miniature train rides for the kids. Spread over 888 acres, Burke Lake Park is truly a beautiful escape from busy city life.

The grounds are gorgeous and well-kept despite the large crowds the park attracts on any given weekend. You can take your pick from ten different fitness trails, some that can be completed in as little as 60-90 minutes. If you’ve got a couple hours, tackle the 4.7 mile loop that goes around the entire lake. You won’t be disappointed by the gorgeous scenery!

The Burke Lake Golf Center is an 18-hole, par 3 golf course great for beginners and has reasonable prices for the area, friendly staff, and picturesque greens. Not feeling the long-haul of playing 18 holes? Take a friend or a date and hit some balls at Burke Lake’s driving range, or sign up for some group or private lessons to perfect your swing.

Admission is free at Burke Lake for Fairfax County residents by showing a valid ID at the entrance, and is $10.00 for non-county visitors on the weekends (admission is free on weekdays for everyone). Grab your hiking shoes, pack a picnic, and head to Burke Lake this summer for a relaxing afternoon away from the city!
