Charm City Concierge is dedicated to community outreach and was very excited to participate in the 9/11 Heroes Run in Annapolis, MD on Sunday.
Four of our Maryland concierges laced up their sneakers for this 5K run and 1 mile fun run/walk at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. This event supports the Travis Manion Foundation.
After a trip to New York, 1st Lt. Manion returned home to share the inspiration he gained while visiting the first responders who rebuilt their police and fire departments following the attacks on September 11, 2001. The 9/11 Heroes Run was created to honor the sacrifice of the heroes on September 11th and in the wars since.
Before returning for his second tour of duty in Iraq, Manion said to his parents “If not me, then who…” This challenge stuck with his parents and helped them to create the foundation after their son made the ultimate sacrifice in 2007.
This run, which is held in many cities across the country, honors the fallen by challenging the living. In Annapolis, there was no shortage of active and retired military personnel, first responders and supporters participating in the race.
Concierge Liz Parker recounts a bittersweet moment during the race, “We saw two Annapolis firefighters running in full turnout gear. We were hot and tired but seeing them was great motivation to keep going. It was very moving to watch them cross the finish line.”
Among the sponsors in Annapolis, Mission BBQ provided food for all participants and beer was provided by Heineken for participants 21 years and older.
The Charm City Concierge team accepted the challenge and raised close to $600 for the cause. Thank you to all of our donors for their generosity and encouragement.
We would also like to thank the Travis Manion Foundation for organizing such an inspiring and wonderful event. Charm City Concierge looks forward to participating again next year!
