Doggie Swim for BARCS
Posted on October 10, 2011

After last weekend’s cold front had us in layers for the Ravens night game, I wasn’t sure it would be warm enough for the Baltimore Animal Care & Rescue Shelter (BARCS) dog swim scheduled for the following weekend. My little dog that loves to swim and I had been looking forward to it for weeks. Perfectly planned on the Ravens bye week was an added bonus so we don’t have to choose between our pups and our birds!

For those that don’t know, BARCS is the animal shelter located in Baltimore City close to the Charm City Concierge main office and many of our downtown properties. BARCS takes in 11,000 unwanted animals each year and the staff and volunteers work tirelessly to find loving homes for them. They host lots of great fundraisers throughout the year, and this one is a favorite for the neighborhood dogs-many of them are BARCS alumni!

Each year, BARCS partners with the Merritt Athletic Club on Fort Avenue for this event. They open their human pool up to dogs for a last hurrah before the pool closes for the season. With a $5 donation to BARCS you can play in the pool from 12pm to 3pm. They also had a costume contest, free samples from doggie businesses and refreshments for both dog and owner.

My dog, Fiona, and tons of her pals from around town had a field day playing in the pool, chasing each other around and just being dogs. It was all too fitting to watch how happy all the dogs and owners were and to know all of the proceeds were going towards helping more pets find a home where they can be this happy!

Our team at Charm City Concierge is thrilled to help out our local charities and take time as a team and personally to support them.

Their next event is their biggest of the year, BARCStoberfest! Be sure to attend with your pup for this great cause.

A tired pup is a happy one! 🙂
