You can find something local to do every weekend throughout the year, but when the weather is warm, very little searching is required. Summertime in means tons of options for entertainment — it’s natural to wonder where to start, though. Consider the following highlights and events a solid starting place for filling your summer calendar.



Chesapeake Crab and Beer Festival

The 4th Annual Chesapeake Crab and Beer Festival brings in nearly 22,000 people each year to enjoy crabs, beer, and family fun! NoVA Brewfest

Smithsonian Folklife Festival
National Mall
Between 7th and 12th St., NW Washington, DC

When: Tuesday, June 20th-Tuesday, July 4th
Cost: FREE Admission

The Smithsonian Folklife Festival is produced annually by the Smithsonian Center of Folklife and Cultural Heritage, honoring contemporary living cultural traditions and those who celebrate them. All 50 states and over 100 countries participate in the celebration.  The festival is from 11AM-5PM with evening dance parties beginning at 5:30PM with circus performers almost every night starting at 7PM.  For more information, please visit:


Capital Fringe Festival

Cost: starting at $17 plus Fringe Button ($5) required at most performances

Capital Fringe focuses on expanding audiences’ appetites for independent Fringe theatre, music, art, dance and unclassifiable forms of live performance and visual art. Capital Fringe is a catalyst for cultural and community development, and a destination that brings artists and audiences together. Warped Tour

Arlington Peruvian Festival

The Peruvian Festival celebrates Peru’s Independence (July 28) with original Peruvian cuisine, music, and dances. This year is the 30-Year Anniversary of the festival and will feature a fabulous fiesta with great music, dances, and Peruvian cuisine. Bring your folding chair and enjoy performances and live music!


Summer Spirit Festival

No summer is complete without the sonic adventure that is Summer Spirit Festival, with a line-up blending the best of soul, R&B, jazz, hip hop, and Go Go. The festival features superstars Kenny ‘Babyface’ Edmonds, Fantasia and SWV, and iconic fan favorites like De La Soul.
