Take some time to explore your own backyard while soaking up the last few weeks of summer vacation.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
1. Fair Game
Virginia summers are filled with family fun at county fairs! Enjoy parades, rides, live music, local food vendors, arts and crafts, entertainment and much more at any of these local fairs:
- Prince William County Fair, August 12-20
- Clarke County Fair, August 14-20
- Arlington County Fair, August 17-21
- Waterford Fair, October 7-9
- Stafford County Fair, October 21-23
2. Day Tripper
Northern Virginia is a prime location for taking a day trip to some exciting surrounding cities! Head up north into Maryland and enjoy the sights and sounds of Baltimore, Annapolis and Frederick. With a short trip south you can hit Williamsburg, Richmond and Charlottesville. Or head to the coast for a taste of Ocean City, St. Michaels, Chincoteague Island and Sandy Point.
3. Be Amused
Enjoy fun in the sun with your family and friends! Take advantage of the fact that Virginia is home to tons of great amusement and water parks; such as Kings Dominion, Soak City, Busch Gardens, Water Country USA and Splashdown Waterpark! Other nearby parks include Hershey Park, Six Flags, Dutch Wonderland, Sesame Place, Great Wolf Lodge and more. Ask your concierge for a listing of special discounts for participating locations!!
4. Dance the Night Away
Summer concerts are a must! Enjoy your favorite bands at one of Virginia’s live music venues; such as Wolf Trap, Jiffy Lube Live, The Birchmere, EagleBank Arena and the State Theatre. Also not far is DC’s Verizon Center, Kennedy Center, Warner Theatre, 9:30 Club, Echostage, and The Howard Theatre.
Check out Calendar of Events for some of the most popular shows in the area. Also, don’t forget to ask your concierge for a Ticket Order Form with a full list of our premium reserved seating tickets!
5. Wine & Dine
Did you know Wine Country is right around the corner? Just head west to Loudoun County to sip on some of Virginia’s best wines and spirits. Most vineyards offer free tours and tastings for a small fee, plus the views are unbeatable! There are dozens of wineries to choose from; meaning there is a little something for every palette. Stop in a local restaurant for dinner on your way home; we suggest trying Blue Ridge Grill, Magnolia’s, Tucarora Mill, Market Table Bistro or Red Fox Tavern if you haven’t yet!
