Despite the cold weather and chaos, we’ve all hopefully taken the time to enjoy the holidays, as we should. We’ve filled our stomachs, optimistically reserved some downtime and put our worries aside. The end of the month has now come and we are faced with a New Year. With a new year comes New Year’s Resolutions, of course!
If you haven’t thought about your resolutions yet, don’t worry, it’s not too late. Below are some last-minute ideas you can put into action easily come 1/1/2017!
Implement Office Yoga
If you are experiencing lower back pain, tight shoulders or a stiff neck, 8+ hours sitting at a desk may be to blame. Yoga stretches can be easy to incorporate into your day and release a bit of stress before heading home. Check out our Pinterest for a few specific office yoga exercises. Better yet, if you have enough interest, reach out to your concierge and ask how you can schedule a standing yoga class for your entire office!
Set Personal Work Goals
Defining specific work goals can be helpful to stay on track in your career, whether you want to earn a bonus or snag a management position. With the start of the new year however; try splitting your larger goal into smaller short-term goals. Focus on earning a certificate (applicable to your position), attend specific training workshops, find a mentor in your company, de-clutter your workspace or organize your email box (and keep it organized)! Achieving smaller goals can make your ultimate goal easier to manage.
Meet New People
Although the holidays are a social time, after they are over, a lot of us tend to settle in at home (and stay at home). Going out and meeting new people is not only beneficial to your mental health, but your career as well. Join a meetup group with others that share your interests or hobbies, attend a fun networking event, make an effort to meet someone new in your office every week, or better yet, invite them out to coffee with you! You never know what opportunities might lie ahead of you.
Visit the Gym
If your office building has a gym, take advantage of it in the new year! Lots of workouts can easily be found online, or again on our Pinterest! Integrating different types of exercises is not only motivating, but important for your mind and body. If your office building doesn’t have a gym, look into a membership or create your own at home!
Commit to Move
If the gym isn’t your thing, don’t force it. Instead, make a goal to move 10 minutes each day (or every hour, if you can)! 10 minutes is enough time to get your blood pumping and rev your metabolism. Try to take the long route to the bathroom, turn a phone meeting into a walking meeting, download your favorite podcasts or audiobooks (keep a pair of earbuds handy) and walk while you listen.
Pledge to Eat Better
Eating better is a common New Year’s Resolution; however, if you stick to it long enough, it can be a life-long commitment. Don’t let that scare you, they say it only takes 21 days for something to become a habit. Ask your concierge for help ordering healthy snacks for the office or try a CSA box (they come with healthy recipes)! Once you learn how to eat “clean” and discover what you like, you’ll find eating healthier is much easier to do than you expected.
Strive to find more time to read in the new year! Reading is an awesome way to gain knowledge on different topics you may be interested in and widen your horizons. Gauge interest in your office and try starting a book club with a few employees or if you’re not into books, find a blog you can read weekly!
