The Where To – For This St. Patrick’s Day
Posted on March 17, 2010

Let’s take a walk down Washington, DC’s New York Avenue and land at this year’s secret pot of gold.  A contemporary British Isles Bistro called AGAINN really sets the bar for St. Patrick’s Day this year.

AGAINN’s menu has something to fulfill all of you Irish lads and lassies, but also caters a unique menu toward the experimental eater.  Wait, don’t get scared!  There are fabulous items for even the safe and more basic foodies out there too.  For those exploring try out the raw bar menu or perhaps the charcuterie menu.  If you are looking to play it cool please head on into the pub grub menu for a delightful savory Angus burger or some Guinness soaked Pretzels with Dijon mustard.

I was lucky enough to try the Hanger steak and cauliflower mash which was paired with a perfect glass of Shiraz.  The steak was cooked to perfection and the mash melted in my mouth.  It almost seemed like I dazed off for a bit while I was eating because it was such a good wine and food partnership.  My friend being the more adventurous food explorer ordered the Brawn off the charcuterie menu.  I said to myself, “What is Brawn?”  For all of you asking the same question, it is a magnificently tasting meat from the pig’s head.  I tried a few bites and was pleasantly surprised.  Just when I couldn’t expect more out of my evening we ordered dessert.  I had the sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce and stout ice-cream.  This sweet choice had a myriad of flavors exploding throughout making it in my mind a “must have.”

Any Scotch lovers out there?  AGAINN offers personalized scotch lockers for you!  These are first come first serve!  What better way to impress your friends than with a personalized locker with three of your favorite bottles in it just for you?   What an added feature?!

For anyone looking to be wow’d this St. Patrick’s Day-this is your place.  I highly recommend throwing on something green, gathering your friends and taking a journey to Ireland through DC’s AGAINN.

All I can say is. . . I can’t wait to go AGAIN!!!
