Need an escape from the city hustle?

If brick and concrete start looking mundane this summer, explore the beautiful areas that surround Charm City. Take a day or weekend trip to enjoy the summer sun, fresh air, and feel like a kid again!

The Great Outdoors

It’s time for an adventure! How can you not love Charm City when you’re a short drive from hiking, biking, waterfalls and bouncy balls?

Roundtop Mountain Resort
925 Roundtop Road, Lewisberry, PA 17339

You might not have heard of an OGO ball before, but it should definitely top your list of adventures. Take a roll in a human bouncy ball down grassy slopes at Roundtop Mountain Resort in Lewisberry, Pennsylvania. About an hour and a half drive from Baltimore, Roundtop is an easy day trip. If “OGO balling” isn’t wild enough, zip lines, high ropes courses, paintball guns, and more are all part of the experience at a very reasonable price.

Kilgore Falls/Falling Branch Area
3318 Rocks Chrome Hill Road, Jarrettsville, MD 21084

Ever had a picnic at a waterfall?  Well now you can—just under an hour away at Kilgore Falls, the second highest waterfall in Maryland. Even on a hot day, the half-mile hike to Kilgore Falls is easy for all ages and fitness levels. Enjoy a refreshing swim under the falls and pack a nutritious lunch for a relaxing day under the trees.

*Note that the small parking lot off of Falling Branch Road fills up quickly. The early bird catches the worm!

Patapsco Valley State Park—Hilton Area
1101 Hilton Avenue, Catonsville, MD 21228

If you want to see a waterfall—but like more of a challenge—try this 7.8-mile, half-day hike. Like Kilgore Falls, it offers beautiful scenery and waterfall views, but is a longer and more dynamic trail. Enjoy multiple stream crossings, Cascade waterfalls, two swinging bridges, Ilchester Overlook, and Bloedes Dam. The hike is rated moderate so make sure to bring plenty of water—at least one liter per person! Check out everytrail.com for more detailed information and trail directions.
