It just happened to be last night that a few friends and I finally had the chance to try Wolfgang Puck’s The Source. Located next to the Newseum in DC’s Penn Quarter, this Asian inspired restaurant has quite an extensive wine list.
The sushi was delicious and the scallop and shrimp spring roll was exceptional. It was nice that there was a casual lounge atmosphere on the main level with bar and the upper level had a more private dining menu and aura. The temperature-controlled glass wine wall was very impressive as it held over 2,000 of The Source’s collection. My friend is quite the wine expert and chose an amazing wine from Austria. I had heard great things of the wines from this area but had never tried them before. I smiled as I took my first sip and was easily mesmerized by the blend of Blaufrankish (Austrian varietal), Zweigelt (Austrian varietal), Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. According to her the Austrian varietals are rather fruit forward and have a bit lighter bodied grapes. An important message I want to send to all you wine lovers is give Austrian wines a chance!

The atmosphere, menu, and wines are the three main ingredients that are making Wolfgang Puck’s The Source the place to go in Penn Quarter. Please take my word and go see for yourself! Try some wine, bring some friends, and dine with class!
